just one question… why is it a jamaican flag and not a hawaiian one? that is all :)
It’s not a Jamaican flag, it is indeed a Hawaiian flag. One of some original seven flags which European men tried to destroy. An attempt to destroy the identity of the Hawaiian people. The flag you’re probably familiar with is the one with the union jack and red white and blue stripes. That flag was brought by the europeans and symbolizes their being here. It doesn’t represent the kanaka maoli. This red, yellow and green flag has actual meaning and represents Hawaiians. The green in the flag represents the maka‘ainana (commoners), the land and goodness; the red represents the konohiki who served the ali‘i, genealogy and strength; and the yellow represents the ali‘i, spirituality and alertness. At the center, there is a shield bearing the coat of arms of the kanaka maoli, made up of kahili and crossed, pointed paddles that represent the voyaging history of Hawaiians, and the strength that the Hawaiian people hold.
